TRANSCRIPT Ep. 285 (4.7.2025)
Libra Full Moon: An Unbalanced Butterfly

This week, Venus and Mercury both station direct – for which, oh, be joyful! But first, Venus comes together with serious Saturn, makes a sextile to exciting Uranus, and is in charge of the Libra Full Moon. And I answer a listener question about medical astrology.
Venus conjoins Saturn (April 7, 2025, 4:01 am PDT)
Venus makes a conjunction with Saturn on April 7th at 4:01 am Pacific time, at 25º15’ Pisces. This is the second in a series of three conjunctions Venus makes to Saturn. The first was on January 18th, and the last will be on April 24th.
The combination of Venus with Saturn can be a little tough. We may find ourselves feeling unloved, unsupported, or maybe as though we will never have enough money or be able to get the things that are essential. Saturn’s plan to change these feelings is about taking responsibility and being wise about how we manage what we already have. When times are tough, this is the kind of aspect that can help us gain clarity about what we actually need versus what we want. And if we find ourselves really struggling with what’s essential, a place to live, food, clothing, sometimes we do best to ask for some help. Maybe we’re close to someone who can give good advice about managing our affairs – the wise married cousin, the financially astute uncle.
And if we are truly on our own, we can always turn to the universe for help. As astrologer, Carolyn Casey once said, the universe wants to be helpful, but spiritual etiquette requires that we ask. And the way we let the universe know that we’re asking for help is through ritual.
This series of Venus and Saturn conjunctions could be helping us decide whether a relationship we’re in should get more serious, or whether maybe it should end. These might be relationships with significant difference in age or status, and these can work out as long as they’re approached in a respectful way.
So, Venus is very often connected with relationship issues or, again, with money issues. This is part of an ongoing series of conversations that Venus and Saturn are having and that we are having with ourselves about how to make ends meet and how to support ourselves effectively, both financially and in matters of the heart.
Mercury stations direct (April 7, 2025, 4:08 am PDT)
Mercury stations direct on April 7th at 4:08 am Pacific Time at 26º49’ Pisces. Mercury went retrograde on March 14th at 9º35’ Aries. Especially as it’s retrograded back into Pisces, a sign in which Mercury can be artistically inspired and very intuitive, but not necessarily real clear, it has not been a terribly helpful Mercury in day-to-day life over the past few weeks. So, I have to admit, I am not sad to see it right itself and move toward Aries, which has problems of its own, but at least it’s straightforward in its communication.
Even as Mercury turns direct, we will still probably see some delays and misunderstandings in communication, travel, fluctuations in the stock market, until Mercury escapes its shadow period around April 26th. But the end of every Mercury retrograde period is a suitable time to look back at what we’ve learned from this brief period of introspection and to consider the ideas and connections that we may have recovered, by following the path of breadcrumbs that we had left in our path to find our way back to them while Mercury was retrograde.
So, it’s kind of appropriate that Mercury turns direct on Sabian symbol 27 Pisces, A Harvest Moon. In that shining symbol, we see the light by which what we planted, what we put into place during this retrograde, will begin to be harvested.
Venus sextile Uranus (April 7, 2025, 9:48 pm PDT)
Also on April 7th – which is a pretty full day, by the way – Venus, still retrograde, makes a sextile with Uranus at 9:48 PM Pacific Time. Venus retrograde, and especially in Aries, is already a kind of a rebellious Venus, and this spunky quality could really be taken up a notch or two when Venus meets up with Uranus, which of course has a freedom-loving, unpredictable, and rebellious quality. Just remember that if you get too wild, Venus’s conjunction to Saturn guarantees that there will be consequences.
There could be something that you are wanting. That might make you feel like you wanna run away from home in order to have it. There could be a reconnection with somebody from your past who tended to bring out your wilder side. And Venus together with Uranus is a not uncommon sign when relationships are ending and in particular, if it’s a relationship where one person or the other feels that their independence is not being encouraged. Now this is a really good transit for motivation, especially to achieve more financial freedom, but especially with Venus still retrograde, there could be a little more of the kind of financial volatility that we’ve been seeing lately.
Mercury conjoins the North Node (April 10, 2025, 6:01 pm PDT)
Mercury makes a conjunction with the Moon’s North Node on April 10th at 6:01 PM Pacific Time at 27º23’ Pisces. Now, what the North Node represents is really something about what we aspire to, and sometimes these are things that we don’t even realize that we aspire to until we get up close to them. They represent a road to growth or to becoming a better version of ourselves. And when Mercury makes an aspect to this point, new information can come to light about how to go about attaining these desires, these objectives. It might be something that you read, something you even see on a TV show or a movie, something you hear on a podcast that triggers old memories about how to proceed in a direction that will satisfy this North Node in Pisces. So it is something perhaps of a spiritual nature of an artistic nature, a creative nature.
Mars trine North Node (April 11, 2025, 7:27 am PDT)
On April 11th at 7:27 am Pacific Time, Mars makes a trine to the North Node. It’s pointing us in more or less the same positive direction, but with action rather than information.
And if you take a move, a step in the direction of something that’s been calling to you for the longest time and doesn’t necessarily feel comfortable, that feels as if it might be worth taking a risk again, of the nature of Pisces. What is it that would spell spiritual satisfaction to you? Artistic fulfillment? That is what to step toward as Mars trines the North Node. Both Mars and the Node are in water signs, so this is likely about interpersonal relationships or emotional breakthroughs.
Libra Full Moon (April 12, 2025, 5:22 pm PDT)
And now it’s time for the Moon report. And we begin, as always, with the major lunation of the week, and this week that is the Full Moon in Libra, on April 12th at 5:22 PM Pacific Time. That’s at 23º20’ Libra.
Now, Full Moons in general, and a Full Moon in Libra in particular, are closely connected with one-on-one relationships. What we consider at the Libra Full Moon is whether or not our relationships feel fair and harmonious and in balance. Does what we’re putting into the relationship feel equitable in terms of what we are getting back? Interestingly, the Moon’s Sabian symbol for this Full Moon is 24 Libra, A third wing on the left side of a butterfly, and it depicts imbalance. And sometimes the key to maintaining balance in a relationship is to assert your own unique, imperfect self.
Libra generally favors surrounding ourselves with music and art, beautifying ourselves and our surroundings. Think about doing some feng shui to your home. Gather people you know who have an artistic temperament, maybe to your home for a potluck or a dinner.
The Sun and Moon at this Full Moon are forming a T-Square with Mars. This introduces a certain amount of, we’ll say, passion to the Full Moon, but also the potential for conflict, especially in our closest relationships. If things get a little too contentious, the key to finding our footing and regaining our balance comes with things related to Capricorn. That is the only cardinal sign that’s not involved in this T Square configuration. Do Capricorn things, balance your checkbook, do your taxes, make checklists.
Lunar Phase Family Cycle
This is the Full Moon in a lunar phase family cycle that began with the New Moon on October 14th, 2023, at 21º07’ Libra. The way the lunar phase family cycle works is, at each New Moon, count forward and every nine months, you’ll see a major lunation that is close to the same degree of that New Moon.
And what this tells us is, it’s a three-year cycle of working through the exact same issues that emerged at that New Moon. The First Quarter Moon in this cycle, the first action point, was on July 13th, 2024, at 22º00’ Libra, and the Last Quarter, the final action point, will be on January 10th, 2026, at 20º24’ Libra.
So think back to that New Moon in October 2023, and think about the kinds of things that were very important to you at that time, that you were trying to initiate. They’re often relationship-oriented, with Libra. They can also sometimes be business-related.
Consider in your chart, where does 21º07’ Libra leave or fall? That’ll give you an idea of the area of life that this Full Moon is continuing an ongoing story about.
Void-of-Course Moon Periods
Let’s look at the Void-of-Course Moon periods for this week. On April 7th, the Moon in Leo squares Uranus at 9:08 pm Pacific Time. It’s Void-of-Course for nine hours and 32 minutes, and then enters Virgo on April 8th at 6:40 am. When the Moon squares another planet on its way to going Void-of-Course, we know we’re looking at a period of conflict, of things that we need to overcome. With the Moon and Uranus both in fixed signs, if you are a little bit set in your ways, if you really enjoy being the center of attention with that Leo Moon, it might be time during this Void-of-Course period to try to see things from other people’s perspective and to share the spotlight.
On April 10th, the Moon in Virgo opposes Mercury at 12:49 PM Pacific Time. It’s Void-of-Course for 5 hours 23 minutes, then enters Libra at 6:12 pm. The Moon opposing another planet as it goes void speaks to an opportunity for awareness. There can always be a bit of a struggle if we’re pitting the Moon against Mercury, between emotions and logic. Of course, Void-of-Course Moons are a terrific time to break old habits and initiate good ones. And I think this is the perfect Void-of-Course Moon period, to initiate a habit of taking time out to meditate on tough decisions.
There are lots of free meditations on YouTube to help you do this work of striking a balance between the head and the heart. A meditative flow can be really effective.
Now, the Moon in Virgo doesn’t always go that way. And it could be something more along the lines of organizing something in your home, tidying something up, which can actually put you in a little bit of a meditative state if that’s the kind of person you are. But put some attention toward that during this Void-of-Course Moon period.
On April 13th, the Moon in Libra squares Mars at 3:01 am Pacific time. It’s Void-of-Course for 3 hours and 53 minutes, and then enters Scorpio at 6:54 am.
Again, this is a Void-of-Course Moon that begins with a conflict, with a square aspect. The Moon is in Libra, which is a sign that we know likes to maintain its balance, and that’s not easy when the Moon in Libra is square Mars. This Void-of-Course Moon may not be an outwardly fiery, tempestuous one, simply because the Moon in Libra and Mars in Cancer are in signs that really have to be pushed pretty hard before they lose their tempers.
The message of this Void-of-Course Moon period is simply about keeping our equilibrium, and if that tends to be difficult for you, this is a nice, four-hour window to practice getting better at it.
Venus stations Direct (April 12, 2025, 6:02 pm PDT)
And finally – finally! – Venus stations direct on April 12th at 6:02 pm Pacific Time. That’s at 24º37’ Pisces. Venus first stationed retrograde on March 1st at 10º50’ Aries, and that’s been kind of a hot degree recently. Mercury stationed near that degree. The March 29th solar eclipse was at 9ºAries, very close to that degree. Even after Venus turns direct, any transits that are on, opposed, or square this degree of Aries will probably continue to be pretty sensitive for a while.
When Venus is retrograde, our desires, our aesthetics lean more toward the unconventional, and that can sometimes put relationships out of harmony. Money matters have also been unstable. Now that Venus is turning direct, we can eventually expect to settle some of that strife in relationships to balance our finances a little more easily, and a more favorable environment for any permanent cosmetic changes, either in your appearance or other parts of your life.
The Sabian symbol for this station is 25 Pisces, The purging of the priesthood. I like this symbol because it suggests letting go of people or even just objects in your life or routines and habits that really aren’t congruent with who you find yourself to be. And really, that was what the Venus retrograde period was especially about: discovering within ourselves what we value, what it is that we really want.
Now we’re in a position to get rid of whatever really isn’t part of our path forward. This could be a fantastic time for a garage sale – we’re planning one in our household! – to get rid of the things that are no longer necessary or no longer really fit our lifestyles, and to make room for things that really do.
Listener Question: Medical Astrology
In this week’s listener question, Listener Helio writes: “Notwithstanding faint hints about your lurid obsession with one or more male cast members of the television series ER (no judgment!), you have not indicated that you are a doctor or play one on TV. Even so, could you provide your loyal listeners with some understanding of the workings of medical astrology?
What sort of questions can a medical astrologer answer? What, if any, sorts of remedies can they and do they tend to recommend to customers in need? How do medical astrologers ply their trade without being charged with practicing medicine, without a license? If a native does not have an Aries first house, does Aries still represent the natives head?
If Billy Porter’s Venus were in Taurus, would he stun in an off-the-shoulder ball gown at the White House Correspondence Dinner? If Capricorn is intercepted in a Supreme Court Justice’s chart, does that constitute a license to wear kilts or miniskirts when issuing preliminary injunctions (Chief Justice Roberts, call your stylist)?”
My goodness, that is one heck of a listener question. No, I’m not a doctor. I don’t play one on TV. I’m not even a medical astrologer! But to the extent that I work with medical astrology at all, which is fairly casually, I will try to walk you through how someone like me works with medical astrology.
Medical astrologers do not practice medicine unless, of course, they have other training and licensing in practicing medicine. Medical astrologers use astrology to understand a person’s health tendencies based on their astrological chart. Each part of the body is associated with a sign of the zodiac and its planetary ruler, or rulers.
And as listener Helio pointed out, Aries is associated with the head, as well as the face, the upper jaw, the adrenal glands. Taurus is connected with the throat, the thyroid, the vocal cords – and all the way down the body, until you get to Pisces and the feet. I’ll create a little cheat sheet that shows all of these correspondences and we will link to that in the episode description.
The first house of the chart does have some overlap with Aries, but they’re not synonymous in terms of medical astrology. The sign on the first house cusp would describe your overall constitution, your body type, your appearance. For example, somebody with Sagittarius Rising is thought to be pretty fortunate in health, may tend to be a little bit taller maybe than others in their family, and they look kind of outdoorsy and cheerful. However, a lot depends on the condition of Jupiter, which is the planet that rules Sagittarius. If you have Jupiter in a very different sign like Virgo, that is going to modify the Sagittarius symbolism quite a lot.
The sixth house is the one that’s often associated with health. And the way I interpret that is that the sixth house describes your daily routines, and that is a really good predictor of overall health – the sign that is on the cusp of that house and that sign’s planetary ruler, plus any planets in the house itself, will give some evidence about areas of potential weakness or sensitivity.
It’ll also point toward ways that we can cope with that. Someone with Aries on the sixth house cusp, for example, might have a tendency toward headaches or hypertension, and we might recommend that they investigate getting more exercise, adopting some techniques for managing stress and talking to their doctor about ways to manage things like blood pressure.
Medical astrologers actually do sometimes collaborate with healthcare professionals or very commonly advise clients to seek conventional medical care for any serious health concerns.
In short, medical astrologers practice astrology, not medicine.
If I see a client with a difficult transit moving through their sixth house and they are asking about their health, I’ll talk about the areas that are prone to sensitivity or weakness based on the signs and planets associated with that sixth house, and suggest astrological remedies to strengthen those areas. And if it looks serious, recommend that they see their doctor. And of course, astrology is very good at providing a timeline and that can help our clients anticipate a little bit of the ebb and flow of any kind of physical ailments.
Saturn transiting through the sixth house in Pisces, for example, might be concerned with joint pain because Saturn rules the joints and inflammatory problems are associated with Pisces, so that can affect the joints as well. And also, things like chronic colds or flu or foot problems, which are all associated with Pisces.
For the duration of the time Saturn is in the sixth house, the astrologer might advise regular and well-structured exercise, especially something like swimming – because Pisces is a water sign – meditation, plenty of rest and plenty of time alone, especially if the person is an introvert. Plus, exploring a diet that’s rich in anti-inflammatory foods.
So, I hope that that helps. Again, that’s a very general approach. There certainly are astrologers who specialize in medical astrology, and if you’re really interested in it, I would recommend checking one of them out. And Listener Helio, as for kilts and evening gowns, just look to the sign on the first house cusp and dress accordingly. If worn responsibly, these do not constitute a health crisis.
