Full Moon in Libra: Laws of Motion

In time for Monday’s Full Moon in Libra (10:15 am PDT / 1:15 pm EDT), I’ve posted a new article at my main website:

cranky Laws of Motion
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. In other words, if we push, the world will push back. If we choose to take action, there will be consequences. Sometimes they are positive consequences; other times, not so much. Often, we have no way of knowing in advance which way it will go, which is a gamble worth taking if your action is well-considered and you believe in it with all your heart. But because taking action can have a large effect on the world, Libra encourages us to consider advice and alternative perspectives before we act….

Requiem for a phone

johnAccording to my SkyLog report, Friday was meant to have been something of a banner day for me: transiting Uranus was precisely conjunct my IC and opposed the MC. By rights, a day like that should have found me moving into a new job with an accompanying palatial residence, such as the White House (out, damn George!), for instance, or perhaps leading an epic revolution amongst the proletariat.

Instead, I dropped my cell phone into the toilet. I guess that’s a legitimate, if little explored, interpretation of what can happen when Uranus (technology) in Pisces (water) collides with a sensitive point in your chart. Without getting into particulars, I can report that my stalwart phone was still almost fully operational following its Esther Williamsesque plunge - except for its LED screen, which was utterly blank, a proverbial tabula rasa. Other than the cootie factor, clearly a blank, expressionless phone was not going to get the job done; a well-documented phoneaphobe, I need to be able to read the display to see whose call I’m considering not taking.

Quote of the day came from my Uranus-rising cousin whose response to the tragedy was a hearty “bwahahaha!” followed by “a moment of silence to honor your fallen (in) comrade.” Perhaps inspired by her characterization of my “comrade” I trudged off to the mall yesterday and came home with my brand new, RED phone, which I’ve dubbed, with some irony, John - a nod not only to his predecessor’s Waterloo (so to speak), but also to journalist and communist sympathizer John Reed.

I don’t even like to think about what might happen the day transiting Uranus opposes my natal Mars.

Pulling back and centering

It’s been an intense but not entirely unpleasant couple of post-eclipse days around here, during which many chickens came home to roost at once and quickly overran the coop. Something about these eclipses in mutable signs really brings on the crazy/busy vibe, doesn’t it? I finally got to the point that one ultimately reaches in these situations, the point where you realize you can’t possibly keep all those balls in the air and had better stop juggling before something (possibly you) falls down and busts into a thousand pieces. So I’ve slammed on the brakes, set down a few balls, and made some decisions that should help restore my sanity, reconnect me to the still center within, etc.

One of the balls I had to give up, with considerable regret, was my planned sojourn to the Blast Conference in Sedona at the end of the month. Our lives had quite a different configuration back when I accepted the mini-lecture gig, and it still seemed possible even a few days ago… but now it’s become clear that, due to work obligations, the trip can’t be made without contorting ourselves into zany, pretzel-like configurations. Alas and alack. To those friends I won’t have a chance to meet up with there, have a tremendous time and we’ll connect at some later time and different place, for sure. In the meantime, enjoy what promises to be a killer conference in what is, by all accounts, an authentically magical place.

I’m also giving up Thursday Thirteen. It’s a fun meme, but I don’t have as much blogging time as I’d like these days, so I’m letting it go.

Creating space. Making room to slow down for a little while, replenish the creative juices, figure out which way to go next.
How are all of you doing? Keeping all the balls in the air?

Thursday Thirteen Vol. 27

13

13 Monday through Friday Moments

  1. Wake up at least once in the night, usually because Spike is trying to lick my face or something.
  2. Get up at un ungodly hour and make breakfast while the spouse showers. Listen to NPR while I cook and curse various outrageous news items, sometimes hurling a spatula for emphasis.
  3. Breakfast with spouse while watching the stock exchange open on Bloomberg television. I have pet names for all the announcer people (Jaws, Blinky, Aunt Betty - who happens to be a man, but looks exactly like my late aunt).
  4. Drive spouse to catch the free shuttle bus to work. He works at a university and the parking is, of course, shockingly inadequate and costly… he’d bike to the shuttle stop, but it’s like three miles and there are no bike lanes. So for now, this is the routine.
  5. Get home and hack my way through a few hours of whatever is most pressingly tardy on my desk, all the while fending off outraged overtures from Spike, who wants to play, and Bodhi, who requires petting.
  6. Have some lunch, usually while reading gossip websites.
  7. Make a trek to the post office to check the mailbox and get some fresh air.
  8. Go back home, play fetch with Spike for awhile, assure Bodhi she is beautiful.
  9. Throw in a load of laundry, and spend a few more hours wrestling with work and, usually, free-floating feelings of inadequacy, etc.
  10. Have a cup of tea about 3:00 pm. Maybe a cookie. Mmmm… cookie.
  11. Call spouse to remind him to catch the shuttle.
  12. Elbow my way through late afternoon traffic and fetch him.
  13. Haul him home and share a well-deserved glass of wine with cheese and crackers.

As you can see, it’s a madcap life, full of strenuous excitement and tooth-chattering drama. Stay tuned for the next thrilling installment…
